Origins
A love of plants, cooking and their histories has been the origins of Stonehurst Gourmet Herb & Edible Plant nursery. Growing up a on farm one learned that mother nature has her own rhythm and timing. While humans can at times affect and artificially recreate much of nature we are not omnipotent, when one enjoys gardening this aspect can cause both a love and hate for mother nature but the overall the joy one receives from a bountiful harvest – fruit or flowers – far outweighs any of the negative and has been scientifically proven that gardening will often help lift ones mood! The mycological (mushrooms) aspect of Stonehurst derived from ones love of growing the ‘weird’ and unusual – dehydrated mixes of ‘wild’ mushrooms and pickled boletes are available seasonally only. Having worked in plant nurseries, floriculture, fungi-culture and farming (dairy and sheep & beef) with certificates in Horticulture, Agri Business Management plus a Bachelor of Art (Design) and a Bachelor of Science (Botany) one has now found something that combines my curiosity (the reason for the ‘weird’ plants and for plants history notes), culinary explorations (“recipes are only a suggestion” – or so my Mum says!) and just a general love of plants and gardening.
